Choose where you sit the test

There is no national learner test. Each state and territory sets its own question count, pass mark, fee and log book requirement, so start where you will actually sit it. Both classes are one click from every card.

New South Wales is the only jurisdiction that publishes its question banks, for cars and for motorcycles, so it is the only place you can practise the real questions. Everywhere else the questions here are original practice questions written against the current road rules, with the rule cited on every answer.

What this site can actually prove

Four claims, and every one of them is checkable from where you are sitting.

  • 674 published questionsThe real New South Wales banks, in fullTransport for NSW publishes its 358 car questions and its 316 rider questions as public documents. Both are here, parsed from the current files rather than copied from another site. Read the whole bank.
  • 1,944 citationsA source under every single answerOne for every question on the site. Each answer names the part of the published bank, or the road rule, that produces it, so you can check the answer instead of taking it on trust.
  • 54 signs drawn hereArtwork made for this sitePlus 18 scenario diagrams and 162 questions built on them. Every piece is drawn from scratch rather than lifted from an official file. Open the sign library.
  • 4 of 8 sourcedStatistics that name their source and date4 of the eight systems have a practical pass rate we read off a release or a portal and can name a publisher for. The rest either publish nothing we have read, or carry a figure with nobody named against it, and the data page says which is which. See the data.

The licence that makes this possible

The New South Wales questions are used under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence, CC BY 4.0, attributed to the State of New South Wales (Transport for NSW). They have not been modified beyond formatting for the screen. That permission is a matter of public record, which is why it is printed here rather than implied by a badge.

What this site does not claim

It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any licensing agency. It publishes no pass rate of its own, no usage figures and no reviews, because it has none to publish. Nothing here replaces the official handbooks and courses, which remain the material you are tested on. The photographs around the site are AI generated scenes, not pictures of real test centres, real cars or real people. The road signs and the scenario diagrams are a different matter: those are drawn here by hand, because a generated sign would teach you the wrong thing.

Last checked against its sources on 27 August 2026. How the checking works.

How much practice is actually here

Every jurisdiction has a ladder in both classes. This is the New South Wales car ladder: 20 tests drawn from 161 of the 358 published questions, with 194 held back because they need artwork that has not been drawn here yet.

The same ladder is built for every jurisdiction and both classes, 245 tests in total over 1,944 questions. Open the full New South Wales ladder, or start with the rider tests.

Who maintains this, and how it is checked

One person maintains this site. There is no team page here because there is no team, and every source is named so you can check any figure yourself.

Vikas Dulgunde

Builds and maintains driving test practice and statistics sites

This site is built and run by Vikas Dulgunde, a software engineer who makes driving test practice and statistics sites. He also runs passrates.uk, which covers the United Kingdom theory test and publishes pass rate data for individual test centres. This Australian site takes the same approach across the eight state and territory licensing systems: practice you can use without an account, and numbers that carry the source they came from.

He is not a driving instructor, an examiner or a road safety professional, and he does not present himself as one. What he does is read the official material closely, work with the data agencies publish, and file freedom of information requests where they do not. Every figure names its source and the date it was checked, every page shows when it was last reviewed, and anything not confirmed against an agency or an open dataset is marked as being verified rather than filled in with a guess. The official handbooks and courses each agency publishes are the authority on the rules. This site is built to sit alongside them, not to replace them.

  • Questions, New South Wales: Transport for NSW, Driver Knowledge Test question bank for cars and Rider Knowledge Test question bank for motorcycles, used under CC BY 4.0.
  • Questions, everywhere else: original practice questions written for this site, each citing the road rule behind its answer.
  • Test rules, fees and pass marks: the licensing agency in each state and territory, named on the page the figure appears on.
  • Last reviewed: . Read the method in full.
